Eddie Palmieri Tribute Keeps the Beat at South Beach Jazz Festival

Originally scheduled to perform at the South Beach Jazz Festival on January 11, 2025, legendary pianist and composer Eddie Palmieri had to cancel his appearance due to health concerns. However, the festival paid tribute to his unparalleled contributions to Latin jazz and Afro-Caribbean music with a special celebration featuring a powerhouse lineup of musicians who have worked closely with him.

A Tribute Led by Sonido Solar

In Palmieri’s absence, Sonido Solar, a band endorsed by the maestro himself, delivered an electrifying performance at the Miami Beach Bandshell. The group, under the direction of alto saxophonist Louis Fouché, featured an incredible roster of musicians, including:

  • Luques Curtis (Bass)
  • Vicente "Little Johnny" Rivero (Congas)
  • Camilo Molina (Drums)
  • GRAMMY-nominated pianist Zaccai Curtis (Piano)

Special guests included celebrated trumpeter Brian Lynch and trombonist Conrad Herwig, both long-time collaborators of Palmieri.
